"Something to make you feel like your on liquid adderall so you destroy the gym".

Actual pre-workout supplements, are not meant to make you feel like your on insane drugs.

Like we talked about a little bit earlier, usually the "Gym Bro" consensus is: The higher the stimulant the better the pre-workout is.
This is not a very safe way to gauge whether or not your buying the best pre workout supplement.
Ideally, when your buying pre workout supplements you consider a couple things:
- Is the pre-workout manufactured in a FDA registered facility?
- Does that manufacture follow GMP guidelines?
- Is the company reputable, or are they some "fly-by-night" company?
- Does the pre workout contain clinically dosed ingredients?
- How many stimulants are inside the product?
- Does this pre workout contain banned substances?
- Does this pre workout have ingredients that will help me hit my goals?
All of these are important factors when you are choosing a new pre workout drink.
One of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a pre workout drink is: Who Manufactures the Supplement.
Why It's Important To Know Where Your Pre-Workouts Are Made
We believe that one of the most important factors when choosing any new supplement or supplement company is KNOWING where they manufacture.
A lot of times, supplement companies are contracting their manufacturing to 3rd party manufacturing companies without auditing the company. This usually leads to a lot of products:
- Pre-Workouts that containing "Spiked" ingredients.
- Pre-Workouts that have under dosing ingredients.
- Pre-Workouts that do not meet label claims: Meaning a company will claim X amount of something and not meet what they are claiming.

Your Pre-Workout Supplement should be designed around your goals.
For example, if your goal is to burn body fat and perform better in the gym. You should look for ingredients like: Evodiamine, Beta Alanine, & Yohimbine.
However, if your goal is to improve strength, performance and muscle growth. You should probably stay as far away from "High Stimulant" Pre-Workout drinks.
When Choosing Pre-Workouts, Pay Attention To The Ingredient
If you take pre-workouts consistently you probably already know that almost every pre workout contains the same ingredients, or similar.
How companies choose to dose their products are what truly separates one from the other.

1. Beta Alanine For Pre-Workouts
Beta Alanine is known for to being the king supplement for endurance.
To understand Beta-Alanine, you first must know that it is a non-essential amino acid. Basically meaning, your body can create it from other amino acids and does not need it from food sources.
People supplement with Beta Alanine due to studies like this that show its benefits for improve endurance during training.
Beta Alanine does this by it's ability to regulate Carnosine that is stored in the muscle. Carnosine regulates acidity levels in side the muscle, so when your exerting your muscle through repetition, your muscle become more acidic.
This is why when supplementing with Beta Alanine it helps delay exercise fatigue and reducing lactic acid build up in the muscle.[2] Allowing you to push more reps during your workouts, increase stamina, and reduce resting time between sets.[3]
2. L-Citrulline For Pre-Workouts
L-Citrulline is the go to nitric oxide booster for bodybuilders.
L-Citrulline is an amino acid present in the body and is a potent endogenous precursor of L-Arginine, which is a substrate for NO synthase.[4] This effect improves the blood circulation inside the body and gives you the "pumped" feeling when your working out.
Most commonly used to increase athletic performance, muscle pumps, reduce fatigue, and increase recovery levels. [5] [6]
How much L-Citrulline do you need?
For performance and NO boosting benefits, the studies show you need anywhere from 4000mg - 6000mg for L-Citrulline to be effective.
Unfortunately, most companies give you anywhere from 1000mg - 2000mg because it is very expensive to use.
3. Taurine For Pre-Workouts
Taurine is an amino acid that has been used for quite some time now, from the golden era of bodybuilding -to today.
Taurine is the most abundant, semi-essential amino acid in the body. Taurine is used inside pre workouts for its ability to help improve human endurance performance. [7]
How Much Taurine Should You Take?
Normal dosing for Taurine is anywhere from 1000mg - 2000mg in pre workout powders. In the study mentioned above, higher dosing did not equate out to better endurance levels.
4. L-Theanine & Caffeine For Pre-Workouts
L-Theanine is know for its "calming" effects when taking orally.
It has grown popular in pre workouts because of its powerful cognitive benefits when combined with caffeine. [8]
These benefits include; increase in Nitric Oxide production[9] improved focus and reaction time [10]
How Much L-Theanine do you need?
Generally you find L-Theanine in a 2:1 ratio with Caffeine, for example. If you have 400mg of L-Theanine, you would use 200mg of Caffeine.
5. Theobromine For Pre-Workouts
Theobromine is a very interesting ingredient, it can be found in nature through chocolate or can be used in supplementation.
Theobromine has benefits that are similar to caffeine, but is not quite as strong.
Unlike caffeine, Theobromine does not effect the central nervous system. Which makes it a great 'stimulant' to use in pre workout supplements.
How Much Theobromine do you need?
Theobromine dosages generally range from 200mg-300mg when combined with other stimulants. Anything less than that is quite under-dosed.
6. Alpha Yohimbine (Rauwolscine) For Pre Workouts
Alpha Yohimbine is known as Rauwolscine, which is a molecule that is very similar to Yohimbine, with similar effects more potent effects.
Rauwolscine works by acting as an Alpha(2)Adrenergic antagonist that aids in burning fat. This molecule also shares the same mood-elevating and energy effects as yohimbine.[11]
The reason you rarely see Alpha Yohimbine in pre workout supplements is due to the sheer cost of it. Comparing it to the standard form of Yohimbine HCl, Alpha Yohimbine cost 10X more.
How much Rauwolscine should you take?
Safe dosing ranges for Alpha Yohimbine (Rauwolscine) would be 2-5mg range.
